Oval Update - Making it green and safe

At this weeks Board meeting we looked at and discussed options for improving our school oval.  After looking at quotes for a range of different scenarios, it was decided that over the Christmas break the oval would undergo the following work.
  1. Coring of the oval with large tynes
  2. At least a 10mm layer of topdressing soil will be applied, which will level out the holes and depressions as well as improve the soil quality
  3. Overseeding with couch grass, which will thicken the lawn and perform better during winter.  It will also give the soil more structure, more grass and hopefully lead to better wearability, less potholes and a more tightly knit surface.
  4. Fertiliser applied
  5. The oval will then be roped off during the school holidays to enable the grass to have the best opportunity of regrowth ready for the start of the 2018 school year.
The biggest issue with our lawn, as outlined by professionals, is that the quality of the soil underneath is sub par.  The work being carried out will hopefully improve the soil quality, and with treatments on an annual basis we should see a much improved lawn over the coming years.
