P&F Update

posted May 12, 2017, 3:05 AM by Principal account
Mother’s Day – WOW go Year 1! The parents in Year 1 put on an amazing Mother’s Day morning tea yesterday with over 60 people attending! There were lots of Mums, Grandmothers and Aunties that attended, with everyone getting very spoilt. The Year 1 parents organised some beautiful decorations and some amazing food, which was enjoyed by all. Once the final figures are totalled we will put together a special update and get it sent out to you.

Interschool Uniforms – I would like to say a huge thank you to the ladies who helped source, design and finalise our interschool uniforms. Hundreds of hours were put into finding the cheapest price, collecting samples, designing, estimating sizing quantities and attending meetings in order to finalise everything for this year’s interschool carnivals. Julie George, Leonie McGuren, Leesa Moran and Helen Riolo gave up a lot of their time, sweat and tears for this. Additionally, Helen put together a grant application for additional funding, which we sadly missed out on. We can’t thank you enough for doing this for the school. Below are images of the final products for our soccer, football, netball and athletics teams.

We want our St Dom’s kids to look and feel amazing when they step up to compete and have pride in their school. I think the ladies have certainly nailed this one! We spent a total of $7,500 which was proudly all raised by the P&F.

AFL x 26 sets

NETBALL x 22 sets

SOCCER x 26 sets

Nature Garden – Mrs Spencer from Pre-Primary has put together a plan for our Nature Garden, which the P&F would like to assist in funding this year. Please click here to see her vision and don’t forget to ask your child if they joined the gardening club or have enjoyed the fresh produce from the edible garden. Towards the end of Term 3 we will be looking for some handy parents who can assist with the construction of an arbour and potting station. Just pre-warning you, if you have carpentry skills you may not want to make eye contact with me for the next term, as we are always looking for volunteers. We will also be looking for general volunteers to help with gardening and assembling duties. It is going to be so awesome for the kids!!! Thank you very much to Mrs Spencer for all the hard work she has done in putting together the plan and applying for a grant from the City of Stirling.

Dinners – During our P&F meeting we decided it would be a community building idea to have 3 frozen dinners in the school hall freezer for families who may need a little assistance at a tough time. If you know someone who may need this helping hand please let your class rep know or get one out of the freezer for them. They are there to be used to bring a little sunshine to someone’s day who needs it. It is totally anonymous, we will just check to freezer to see when more stock is needed. Thank you to the three ladies who offered to bake this time.

Edudance – The P&F is pleased to announce that they are once again providing the funds required to enable the Edudance program to be run at St Dom's. Your child should already be bopping away with their new dance moves ready for the concert on Tuesday 20th June. We will also be having a cake stall on this day so you can nibble away while watching the entertainment.

Disco - Carmel and Mel along with the very enthusiastic Year 6 parents are planning an Hawaiian Themed Disco on Friday 9th June. There are some brilliant ideas going around and we can’t wait to see the final product on the night!! Please mark it in your diaries. More details to come.

P&F Meeting – We had a great P&F meeting last week and finalised a couple of things for this term. The minutes of the meeting can be accessed by clicking here. Thanks to all who attended. A short summary of the minutes are:
  • Staggered oval access - Leon met with older kids and asked them for ideas / preferences and kids said they would like whole day roster so that games started at recess can continue at lunch. Teachers and Leon reviewed oval access policy which has been altered to include whole day access on the roster
  • There are some incredible plans for the Edible Nature garden which will be a major fund raising focus for the P&F this year. Plans to add seating for outdoor learning area, build an arbour which will have grape vine growing over, dwarf orange trees, a potting station / hand washing area
  • Easter raffle outcome and Hot cross bun drive raised $840 with 95% of families contributing! These funds together with the $300 raised from Grill'd will be spent on the Edible Nature Garden
  • P&F have contributed $500 to update resources in Kindy and Pre-Primary and purchased soccer goals
  • Sports Uniform Competing Kits (netball, soccer, AFL, athletics / Cross country) have been ordered and look incredible! It is anticipated that these will be ready for the lightning carnival 9th June
  • P&F have funded a doll house for Social Work, more musical instruments, cooking tubs and provided Edudance this term!
  • Main fundraising event for the year will be the Colour Run in term 4 - see separate email to follow
