P&F Update Week 9

posted Mar 29, 2017, 11:35 PM by Principal account
Its come around so quick but its nearly the end of Term 1 and our Easter Holidays are about to start. At our last P&F meeting we had some great ideas of what to do with the funds raised this year to assist our kids. Over the school holidays the teachers were busy buying our approved items with the funds raised last year, below are is just some of what we purchased with help from the school community fundraising.

The teachers are most grateful for the additional equipment purchased and we want to continue to support them in the great work they do.

Our next fundraiser is the Easter Raffle and Hot Cross Bun purchase. The P&F are looking to raise $350 to purchase a retractable hose for the Nature Garden $130, a specialised dolls house and figurines for the Social Worker $70 and a set of Boom Whackers for music for $120. Should we exceed this amount we will keep you updated on the purchases!

Please return your Hot Cross Buns form by this Friday 31st March so we can get the order to Bakers Delight Innaloo in time. We would like your raffle tickets returned by Wednesday 5th April to be drawn at the Easter Bonnet Parade on Thursday 6th April. **Could I please have 4 volunteers to help me wrap Easter Raffle prizes on Wednesday 5th April (can be morning or afternoon). If you could let me know on pandf@stdominics.wa.edu.au I would be most grateful. Thank you

WE WANT YOUR OLD LEGO, MOBILIO and DUPLO PLEASE - We had a request from a teacher for some additional Lego to be purchased for $50. The P&F discussed where it should appear on our fundraising list as it’s a great resource. Then we thought we all have small amounts of Lego, Duplo or Mobilio at home that may be no longer used. Lets try to see if we can get donations to give to this teacher and all year groups to save our funds raised for other items.

We will be putting two mini bins out near the canteen and we would like any donations of Lego, Duplo or Mobilio to distribute to the appropriate year groups. We will give it a good clean before passing it on and hopefully save the school 1000’s of dollars. Even if you only have 5 pieces of Lego this will still make a difference. We will keep everyone updated with our efforts and share photos of items donated.

EDIBLE GARDEN UPDATE - We are so excited to have Mrs Celeste Spencer (Pre-Primary Teacher) on board with our Edible Garden. She has some brilliant ideas on how she would like to develop the area and how the children can be involved. We purchased 31 pairs of gloves for the students to use for $94.48 from the money won through the Grilled promotion and will use the additional $200 for seedlings/plants for the garden beds (see photo below). We can’t wait to assist her with upcoming projects. We already have some very fat juicy worms ready to go and hopefully will be able to look at ways to supply a rainwater tank, earth worm farm, potting station, outdoor seating and shade sail to help make it a legacy for all the children to enjoy and benefit from. There will be research into grants for some of these items and a bit of hard work from the parents to ensure that it is something amazing!

Mrs Spencer was also looking at a gardening club at lunchtime, which is a marvellous idea! Don’t forget to ask your child what their year group is growing in their garden bed.

MOTHERS DAY MORNING TEA - Please mark in your calendars our Mothers Day Morning Tea on Thursday 11th May at 9am, hosted this year by Year 1. The Mothers Day Mass will be on Friday 12th May at 9am in the Church.

Finally, a big thanks to all the class reps who turn up to our meetings and put their ideas forward and support the P&F on your behalf! We couldn’t do it without you.  We had another 2 new faces at our last meeting, which is so encouraging for us to have your support and enthusiasm.
