Faction Swimming Carnival Wrap Up

Firstly, I just wanted to again say a big thank you to all who made the 2021 Swimming Faction Carnival run as efficiently as possible.

To the parents for helping with the timing and to the teachers for all playing their roles, whether it be starting, announcing, or looking after students in the bays. No job is bigger than the other, and without your help, the day simply wouldn’t go ahead. Thank you.

To the students, thank you for all of your efforts once again. Whether you came 1st, 4th or 6th in your race, as long as you gave all races your best shot, then that is all we can ask for. I was also immensely proud of the way our students supported each other on the day. I saw so much encouragement and good sportsmanship from all students throughout the day, which is a message I have shared with our Year 3 to 6’s. In particular, I thought that our Year 6 students really led the way with this. Leadership is so much more than words. The way that our Year 6 students set the tone with this is a fantastic way to start the year from a leadership perspective. Well done, Year 6!

A thank you must go to James Dyer and Josie Moran, who did a great job opening up our carnival with the prayer and welcome to country. Thank you.

Thanks must also go to Chris and Keegan at Timing Solutions, as well as Claremont Pool for ensuring that everything was set up and ready to go for the carnival. Thank you.

Congratulations to Lima on winning the swimming shield with consistent results throughout the day. Congratulations must also go to all of the champion boys and girls. We will acknowledge Champion Boys and Girls, as well as our Interschool Swimming Team and record breakers, at the assembly on Friday, 12th March. As we are still in Phase 4 of Covid restrictions, I ask that only the parents of record breakers attend the assembly.

Interschool Swimming Team 2021

The following is the Interschool Swim Team for 2021. I am at this stage still working on filling all of the events. If you have any queries, please don’t hesitate to get in contact with me.

Please click the link below to find out what race your child is in. The Interschool Swimming Carnival will take place on Thursday, 1st April at HBF Stadium. A breakfast for these students will be held on the first Friday back at school in Term 2. I will release more details closer to the time of the carnival, including the program of events, travel arrangements and what to bring.

It is an expectation and requirement that all students who have selected for the Interschool Swim Squad wear the correct St Dominic’s School bathers and swimming cap.  Caps will be available on the day for the students to wear and St Dominic’s School bathers are available for purchase from the uniform shop.

Please also note that in order to fill races, I have asked some students to race a year above their age bracket. I have also asked some students to race in events that they didn’t compete in on the day of the carnival to ensure I fill races.

Interschool Swimming Training 2021

This year, swimming training will be held at Scarborough Swimming Pool on the following dates from 7:30-8:15am. Currently, we have only been able to secure 2 lanes at Scarborough Pool, so I ask that only students in the Interschool Swimming Team attend these sessions. I am currently working with Scarborough Pool to secure more lanes. Dates for training are as follows:

Tuesday 9th March

Thursday 11th March

Tuesday 16th March

Thursday 18th March

Tuesday 23rd March

Thursday 25th March

Monday 29th March at HBF Stadium outdoor pool (7:15-8:00am)

For the training at HBF stadium, parents are responsible for dropping their child at the pool, picking them up, and transporting them back to school.

The P&F have kindly organised a professional coach for the duration of the training. Parents will be required to cover the cost of entry ($4.50) at Scarborough Pool if they wish for their child to participate in training. A staff member from St Dominic’s will be on hand to supervise the children for each session. It will be up to the parents to ensure students are dressed in the correct school uniform and transported back to school.

Finally, once Timing Solutions have sent me the link, I will send through access and log in details to parents so that they can view their child’s race times should they wish to do so.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.
