Making Jackets for Homeless Dogs in Year 4 – Can you help with the following donations?

The Year 4 students are making jackets for homeless dogs at the Dogs Refuge in Shenton Park as part of their studies in Design and Technologies.  They would like to be sustainable and if possible reuse household fabrics.  They would like to ask the school community for donations of used, soft fabrics for the lining such as fleece, flannel or quilting cotton; and more durable fabric for the outer shell such as polyester, canvas, twill, denim, nylon or goretex.  This could be old large clothes, blankets, sleeping bags etc.  They would also love to have any unused hook and loop velcro (the non-sticky kind) and cotton thread.  It would also be a wonderful learning opportunity if the students could watch someone sew on a sewing machine and discuss how sewing patterns and the machine are used to create fitting garments.  If there is someone who has a sewing machine that they could bring in and demonstrate for the students this Thursday morning, please email me – Michelle.martin@cewa.edu.au .
