Mini Vinnies Winter Appeal

As we are now in the full swing of winter, there are many in our society who face the struggle of domestic violence and need our help. Over the last six months there has been an increased need to rehouse families, with many leaving quickly with no possessions.  To support these families, Vinnies WA have invited our school to participate in the 2022 Winter Appeal.

The theme of this year’s Winter Appeal is ‘Stopping the violence starts with a safe place to sleep’, focusing on the importance of providing safety to families and individuals fleeing domestic violence. On Census night in 2016, there were 116,000 Australians experiencing homelessness. An estimated 9,000 were Western Australians. Recent data indicates that the number has increased significantly due the impacts of COVID-19. Last year alone Vinnies WA answered 31,316 calls for emergency assistance.

For the duration of Term 3, St Dominic’s School will be conducting a Vinnies Winter Appeal collecting material donations. These can be sent to the front office where they will be placed in a large box. In Week 10 of Term 3, we will organise for St Vincent De Paul to come and pick up the donations and take them to those in need.

Your kind donations will assist families struggling with domestic violence this Winter season.
