Year 6 Sacrament of Confirmation Further Details

Please see the following information outlining details for the Sacrament of Confirmation.  Please note that all the information below and the materials will be coming home with you child this week.

Date

The date for Confirmation is Saturday 18th June at 6:00pm.

Times

Parents are advised to arrive at St Dominic’s at 5:30pm to find allocated seating. If you would like photos prior to the ceremony, please arrive at 5:15pm. Photographs can be taken after the ceremony as well. We would like students to be at the back of the church, ready to process in at 5:50pm.

Confirmation Cards

Each student will have received a white Confirmation card in their pack. Could the completed cards please be handed in to the front office by Friday 10th June. There is an example of how these should be filled out in the packs.

Confirmation Names

Students have been instructed to choose a suitable Confirmation name, which will need to be written on the white card. Students should think about this carefully and choose a saint that they can draw inspiration from. If you are unsure of the suitability of Confirmation names, please get in contact with Mrs Phillips or Mr Bovell.

Sashes

The children will be required to wear their white sash to the Confirmation celebration. New badges have been given to the students with this letter for you to sew on. Please see the picture attached. Students will also be given a pin to wear on their sash. This is to be worn at the bottom of the sash with previous Sacramental badges.

Sponsors

A sponsor must be someone other than the parent of the child to be confirmed and must have received the Sacrament of Confirmation themselves. A sponsor must also be at least 16 years of age. Parents can step in as a proxy if the chosen sponsor can’t make it.

Clothing

Students have a choice of what they would like to wear to Confirmation. Their sash will be worn over their clothing. In order to show reverence, we ask that you please abide by the following guidelines.

Girls:

    • Shoulders and midriffs are to be covered (i.e. no strappy or strapless tops)
    • Skirts should be sitting on the knees or longer
    • Minimal make-up
    • No denim
    • Sensible hairstyles

Boys:

    • No denim
    • No sneakers/skate shoes
    • Collared shirt
    • Sensible hairstyles

Seating

Families will be allocated one pew each. There will be a pew marker where families are to sit. As this is a Parish mass, any other family members or friends can fill the remaining pews in the church, or pews that are not full.

Professional Photographs

The school has organised a professional photographer to be available prior to the ceremony to take photos of family groups, individual photos and small group shots. The photographer will be available from 5:15pm and these photos will be taken in the Parish hall. You should arrive early enough if you want to participate in this activity.

Similarly, the photographer will take photos of individuals and family groups after the ceremony has concluded. Please speak to the photographer directly on the day if you wish to participate in this activity. A link will be provided to families where they can view and order photos should they wish to do so.

We look forward to sharing in this celebration with our wonderful Year 6 students. If you have any questions about the above information, please don’t hesitate to get in contact with us. If there are any changes, we will communicate these with you.
