St Dominic’s Seesaw Guidelines for Remote Learning (Parents)

Seesaw is a platform for student engagement. Teachers can empower students to create, reflect, share, and collaborate. Students “show what they know” using photos, videos, drawings, text, PDFs, and links. It’s simple to get student work in one place and share with families, and nothing is shared without teacher approval.

There are two apps for Seesaw.

Seesaw Class- This is for students to use to upload learning artefacts and receive feedback from their teacher only. If you have multiple children using Seesaw, they can use the same app.

Seesaw Parent- This is for parents only. Parents use this to view their child’s work and to keep updated on what is happening in the class via the ‘inbox’. Parents can have all of their children linked to the same Parent app.

At St Dominic’s School, the following guidelines are put in place to create uniformity in the way that we use Seesaw as a Remote Learning Tool.

Communication

  • Teachers will be able to communicate with parents by sending announcements through Seesaw. Teachers use Seesaw for reminders and quick updates related to the class. Announcements go straight to the parents or child’s inbox. This is in a private and personal space so that parent replies can only be seen by the classroom teacher.
  • Parents can communicate with teachers using Seesaw. For more formal matters, please get in touch with your child’s classroom teacher by e-mail.
  • Formal communication will always come to a parents’ preferred e-mail address, as well as the school website. Remote Learning Plans and instructions will always be found on the school website.
  • When students upload work, teachers will be able to give feedback by commenting on learning artefacts. Parents can view and write comments as a means of keeping in touch with their child’s teacher.

Uploading Work

  • For Remote Learning, students will be able to use the Seesaw platform to submit work to the teacher for feedback. You will be able to view only your child’s work.
  • Students can upload work by clicking on the ‘green’ add button towards the top of the screen. This will give students the option of uploading work by using photo, drawing, video, upload, notes and links.
  • When students have completed their work, they will need to submit it by clicking the ‘green tick’ in the top right-hand corner. Students will then be asked to file their work according to the subject.

Settings

  • On the left-hand side of the page, you will be able to change settings to adjust the notifications you receive. Scroll down to ‘manage notifications’ to change email and push notifications depending on what you want to see.
