This term, St Dominic’s School Innaloo is excited to launch our Walk for Water initiative in support of Project Compassion, Caritas Australia’s annual Lenten appeal that unites schools, parishes and communities to help people experiencing poverty and injustice around the world. Project Compassion empowers individuals to thrive by providing access to basic needs such as clean water, education, healthcare and sustainable livelihoods, helping transform lives every day.
During the campaign, students will participate in daily walks to show solidarity with children and families who must walk long distances to collect water. Kindy to Year 2 will walk for 10 minutes each day, while Year 3 to Year 6 will walk for 20 minutes each day. As part of our school community, we also encourage families to support this meaningful cause by making weekly donations to Project Compassion throughout the term. These can be placed in the Project Compassion boxes in each classroom.
We are walking not only to raise much-needed funds but also to build empathy and awareness about the global water crisis and the challenges many children face daily. This experience is an important way for our students to reflect on compassion, justice and gratitude, and to understand the impact of collective action.
