Year 1 and 4 Excursion to Kings Park – Tuesday 12th May

We are pleased to provide you with the following details regarding the upcoming Year 1 and Year 4 excursion to Kings Park on 12th May, 2026.

This excursion has been planned to supplement the following learning taking place in each year level:

Year 1 – Nature Boat Building Program

Students will explore:

  • How materials have different properties
  • How materials behave when placed in water (e.g., float, sink, absorb, repel)
  • How to design, build, test, and refine a simple boat using natural materials
  • The importance of teamwork, creativity, and learning through nature play

Year 4 – Child vs Wild Program

Students will explore:

  • Ways that living things depend on each other and the environment to survive
  • How humans can use natural features in a safe and responsible manner
  • Problem‑solving and teamwork through survival‑style challenges
  • Respect and care for the environment through hands‑on nature-based learning

Excursion Details

  • Departure from St Dominic’s School: 9:00am
  • Return to school: 2:30pm
  • Transport: Bus travel to and from Kings Park

Activities for the Day

Year 1 – Nature Boat Building

  • Hands-on exploration of natural materials
  • Designing and building a boat
  • Testing floating and sinking
  • Nature play and exploration at Kings Park

Year 4 – Child vs Wild

  • Team-based survival challenges
  • Exploring bushland features
  • Navigation, problem-solving, and environmental awareness
  • Outdoor activities promoting resilience and collaboration

Student Requirements

Please ensure your child comes equipped with:

  • School sports uniform (grey polo top)
  • School hat
  • School bag containing:
    • Recess
    • Lunch
    • Water bottle

Please note that children may get slightly dirty during nature-based activities. A small towel is optional.

You will be notified once helpers have been finalised.

If, for any reason, you need to contact your child during the excursion, please phone the school office, and staff will relay the message to one of the supervising teachers.
