On Thursday September 11th, Year One set off on an exciting adventure to Naturescape at Kings Park!
Our first stop was the Boat Building Experience, where our wonderful Naturescape Educator, Jemma, shared a story about Slinky the Skink having a swimming race with a Motorbike Frog in Paperbark Creek. Unfortunately, Slinky couldn’t swim so his friends helped him by finding natural materials from the bush to help him float down the creek. After the story, we investigated which natural materials sink or float by testing them in the creek. This was an important challenge, as our Year One students were given a very special mission: to design and build their own boats using only natural materials. The true test was seeing if their creations would float and could travel downstream!
Following the boat challenge, our Year Ones had time to explore the creek more freely, wading through the water, building dams, and playing imaginatively with friends. Many students also tackled the climbing obstacles and invented stories about discovering a “secret potion mixing place” to save everyone from the “bad guys.”
It was a day filled with learning, adventure, and imagination, an excursion our students will surely remember!
A big thank you to our wonderful parent helpers who joined us on the day. Your support and enthusiasm made the experience extra special and helped everything run so smoothly. We couldn’t have done it without you!
