Year 2 News

It has been a busy start to Term 1 and it is hard to believe we are almost half way through!
Homework officially begins this week and below is a summary of the expectations for Term 1:

Spelling
  • Activities found on Spellodrome online. Their word lists are updated each fortnight.
  • This term, a hardcopy of their word list will go home which can be used as an alternative or in conjunction with Spellodrome activities – up to your personal preference or your child’s preference. The words will be the same as those found on Spellodrome. Your child can cut the lists and sort the words each night if they wish. Please be aware that we cover these words everyday in class so look, cover, write, check for 5-10 words per night is sufficient.

Reading

  • Home reader – swapped daily
  • A list of pre-reading, during reading and post reading questions are attached to this email. They are a guide that may assist you in sparking conversation with your child about the book they are reading and promote a deeper understanding of the text.

Mathematics

  • Worksheet to be completed and returned by Friday each week.
  • Assigned Mathletics activities can be completed at your child’s own pace.
  • Developing understanding of mathematical concepts comes from a lot of conversation. For this reason, I encourage you to ask your child questions about the activities they are completing on Mathletics to see how much they understand the underlying concepts.

Seesaw

A QR code will be sent home this Friday that will allow you access to Seesaw. This is an online portfolio and communication platform that will be used to send class updates and work samples of your child’s learning in real time.
Please do not hesitate to email me or come in and see me if you have any questions about the information above.
I hope you had a lovely weekend.
