Swimming at St Dominic’s School in 2020

Following a review last year of the swimming options offered to our students here at St Dominic’s School, we are trialling several changes in 2020.  Below is an outline of the 2020 swimming program.

Year 1 to 6 Swimming Lessons – Lessons will once again be offered to students in Year 1 to 6 this year, however, the Year 3 to 6 students will be participating in lessons during first term (Week 3 and 4) and the Year 1 and 2 students will attend lessons in Term 4 (Week 5 and 6).  Lessons have also moved this year to the Scarborough Beach Pool for all year levels, which will significantly cut down on travel time.

The decision to create this split was based on our collective desire to provide our younger students with more time at the begging of the year to settle into routines and build relationships with each other and their teachers, without the disruptions that can be associated with swimming lessons.  Although we felt the same applied to our older students, with the Faction Swimming Carnival scheduled for Week 5, we felt it important these students had the opportunity to spend time in the water prior to this event.

Year 3 to 6 Faction Swimming Carnival – With Scarborough Beach Pool not offering lanes for school carnivals in 2020 (this may change in the future), the carnival will once again be held at Claremont Pool on Thursday, 5th March (Week 5) .

Year 1 and 2 Fun Tabloid Water Games – The fun tabloid water games, which were previously held during the Year 3 to 6 Carnival, will now be held on the final day of the Year 1 and 2 swimming lessons at Scarborough Pool in Term 4.

Interschool Swimming Carnival Training – Lanes have been booked on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at Scarborough Beach Pool from Week 6 through to Week 9, with the Interschool Carnival taking place on Tuesday, 7th April, at Challenge Stadium. An opportunity for the team to attend the Challenge Stadium Pool prior to the carnival will also be arranged.
