Year 1 and 2 Peninsula Farm Excursion – Monday 16th May

The Year 1 and Year 2 classes will be attending an excursion to the Peninsula Farm on Monday, 16th May.  We will leave school at 9:20am and return to school by 2:30pm.

The excursion will involve curriculum-linked, educational experiences for the classes.  This will be a rich and fun learning experience and a great way to enhance what we have been learning in HASS this semester about PAST and PRESENT life.  The visit to Peninsula Farm will stimulate students’ curiosity about the olden days and contribute to their development of the sequence of time along with contribute to their appreciation of technological developments and what these changes have meant for our domestic lifestyles.

We would love to further enhance the students’ experience by encouraging them to dress in “olden days” or colonial clothing.  To assist you with this the following are simple suggestions.  We do not want you to go to great expense.  All children should wear closed shoes or boots.  If your child chooses not to dress up, they may wear their sports uniform with their grey school sports polo on this day.

For girls:

  • Long skirt or dress
  • Long sleeved blouse
  • Frilled or lace tops
  • Small floral prints
  • Shawls or woollen cardigans
  • White apron or pinafore
  • Bonnet, straw hat or mop cap
  • Plaits, braids or buns with ribbons

For boys:

  • Plain or check button up shirt
  • Waistcoat
  • Plain coloured long pants or shorts
  • Braces
  • Formal styled jackets or blazers
  • Bow tie
  • Long socks
  • Newsboy or other cloth hat

Peninsula Farm dates from 1831 and the house depicts the daily activities of a Methodist family that lived a very frugal lifestyle.  For day-to-day activities the family is likely to have worn quite plain, serviceable garments except for attending church or special occasions.  These images are examples of the types of clothing possibly worn and would be suitable for our excursion.

Please provide your child with their morning tea and lunch in a clearly labelled plastic bag as we will be placing these into tubs.  Students WILL NOT be able to buy any food or drinks during the excursion.  Parents are advised to also put sun cream and insect repellent on their children before leaving home.

We will require three parent helpers for each year group to assist on the day.  If you are available and would like to help out, please complete the Microsoft Form linked below.
